A new study from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, provides the first population-specific frequency data for four major pharmacogenes—CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, and SLCO1B1—revealing a high prevalence of variants that significantly alter drug metabolism and transport. The findings carry immediate implications for the safe prescribing of statins, warfarin, NSAIDs, and other commonly used medications, especially in a region where polypharmacy is widespread and genotype-guided therapy is not yet standard.
