Una investigación publicada en Advanced Energy Materials presenta una estrategia de regulación espaciotemporal de la red de enlaces de hidrógeno para baterías acuosas de zinc-ion, logrando desacoplar el transporte de protones (H⁺) y zinc (Zn²⁺). Mediante un electrolito eutéctico profundo hidratado (HDEE), los investigadores redujeron el tamaño medio de los clústeres de moléculas de 843 a 243 y optimizaron la vida útil del enlace de hidrógeno a 11.2 ps, suprimiendo la conducción de H⁺ y mejorando la transferencia de Zn²⁺. Este avance es altamente relevante para el sector de sistemas de almacenamiento estacionario acoplados a fuentes renovables, como la geotermia, ya que ofrece una vía para desarrollar baterías de bajo costo, seguras y con un rendimiento excepcional a bajas temperaturas (−25 °C), superando las 6400 horas de ciclado estable en celdas simétricas de Zn//Zn.
