PET imaging in 70 unmedicated MDD patients and 95 healthy controls reveals that familial predisposition to depression, rather than parental bonding quality, is associated with neostriatal serotonin 4 receptor (5-HT4R) binding in a sexually dimorphic manner. Predisposed females exhibited 6.8% higher neostriatal 5-HT4R binding than non-predisposed females, a finding absent in males, while no association was found between parental bonding and receptor levels in any brain region.
