This study provides the first demonstration that manipulation of transfer RNA-derived fragments (tRFs) directly affects seizure activity and pathology in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE). Targeting an upregulated tRF in a mouse model of status epilepticus exacerbated seizures, altered network activity, and increased glial fibrillary acidic protein expression, establishing tRFs as functional contributors to epilepsy pathogenesis rather than mere biomarkers.
