Building Bridges: A Framework for Sustainable Community Partnerships in Clinical Research
Persistent health disparities across populations are partly driven by a lack of broad participation in clinical research, which limits the validity and generalizability of new therapeutics. This is particularly acute in Indigenous communities, which harbor deep-seated mistrust due to a history of unethical research practices. A new framework, developed from a nearly two-decade-long partnership between researchers and an Indigenous community in Montana, proposes community-based participatory research as a solution. This approach centers community engagement and co-creation of research priorities to build meaningful, enduring partnerships.
