Building Trust in Trials: A Framework for Inclusive Clinical Research

Persistent health disparities are partly fueled by a lack of diverse representation in clinical research, which limits the validity and generalizability of new therapeutics. A new perspective article in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics addresses this by proposing a framework for building sustainable community-academic partnerships, drawing on nearly two decades of work with an Indigenous community in Montana. The authors argue that traditional research models have failed to earn the trust of many populations, particularly those with historical experiences of unethical practices.
