In a cohort of 80 patients with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease (EOAD), researchers demonstrated that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels are the strongest predictor of cortical atrophy within the disease’s characteristic signature. Stepwise regression analyses showed that CSF NfL levels alone best predicted the magnitude of cortical thinning, outperforming seven other CSF biomarkers.
