The Real-World Shield: Pediatric Flu Vaccine Effectiveness in a Post-Pandemic Era
A large, multi-season study from the New Vaccine Surveillance Network provides crucial real-world evidence on influenza vaccine effectiveness (VE) in children. Analyzing data from seven US pediatric medical centers across three seasons (2021–2024), researchers tracked over 19,000 children with acute respiratory illness to determine how well vaccination prevented hospitalizations and outpatient visits. The study found that overall VE ranged from 34% to 60%, with the lowest protection observed in the 2021–2022 season.
