After accounting for factors like age and lean mass, insulin resistance (measured by HOMA-IR) was a significant negative contributor to bone density at both the tibia and radius. The findings suggest that the metabolic disturbances of obesity and prediabetes directly impair bone quality during a critical developmental period.
