A new in vitro study provides a roadmap for selecting injection guides to improve the accuracy of direct composite veneers. Researchers tested three guide types—a 6mm transparent silicone guide, a 1.5mm rigid 3D-printed guide, and a 2mm hybrid guide—across different veneer thickness designs. The findings revealed that the accuracy of the final restoration was determined primarily by the guide type and the specific region of the tooth being restored, not by the intended veneer thickness. For labial surfaces, the flexible silicone guide delivered the highest precision, particularly in the incisal region. Conversely, for achieving tight marginal integrity on proximal surfaces, rigid 3D-printed guides with specific injection strategies proved superior.
