In Rotating Packed Beds (RPBs)—devices used to enhance gas-liquid reactions—a previously underutilized “cavity zone” was fitted with a static stainless steel wire mesh. When liquid impacts this mesh, it disperses into finer droplets, dramatically increasing the surface area for chemical exchange. A hydrophobic coating on the mesh further improves performance, reducing liquid blockage and increasing the total gas-liquid interfacial area by 49.3% compared to a standard RPB.
